My Approach
I utilize a psycho-spiritual approach to my work as a therapist, bringing many years of self-inquiry and meditation practice to our relationship. I see your life’s challenges as a path of transformation and self-discovery. My primary focus is to help you feel and function better. The difficulties and concerns you bring into therapy are a starting point in determining your therapeutic goals. Therapy is a collaborative process, a relationship in the service of you achieving your highest well- being and potential.
Therapy can be life changing
Entering therapy offers you relief from your immediate suffering, while opening the door to a deeper level of healing and self-realization. The ideas of self-realization come from Eastern spiritual traditions which describe the knowledge and embodiment of one’s true nature or the higher self beyond the ego.
Transpersonal
Psychotherapy
This technique invites you on an inner journey of discovery and growth. Beneath the familiar stories of your life and undigested feelings, you can discover the unique spark of consciousness and insights that can become the source of your deepest joy and freedom.
The journey to greater health and well-being is hastened by developing greater present-moment awareness at the level of the Head, Heart, and Body centers. Cultivating cognitive, emotional, and somatic awareness unlocks the wisdom and resources inherent in each of these three centers of intelligence.
Understanding and experiencing the value of Mindfulness underlies our work together. Developing the capacity to direct your attention, and to focus on the present moment, allows you to challenge your allegiance to your negative beliefs and habits. Over identifying with painful thoughts, emotions, and behaviors is the source of our greatest suffering. Over time, the practice of mindfulness cultivates genuine insight and clarity, which can be a source of great freedom and peace.
“To realize that you are not your thoughts is when you begin to awaken spiritually.”
Eckhart Tolle
Developing Emotional Intelligence leads to a greater awareness at the level of the heart. And learning how to identify, open to, understand and manage your emotions, invites the deeper qualities of the heart including: empathy, courage, generosity, and love. The discovery and increased awareness of these heart-centered qualities enable you to attune better to yourself and others, allowing for more authentic and meaningful relationships. Developing the soft skills of the heart is the secret sauce to success in both professional and personal relationships.
“I would like my life to be a statement of love and compassion-and where it isn’t, that’s where my work lies.”
Ram DasS
Our bodies often hold our emotions and memories of past traumas. Developing Somatic Awareness, the capacity to drop down out of your “monkey mind” into a felt sense of your physical body, is integral to your healing and ability to be fully present. Body-based wisdom is a conduit to discovering intrinsic stability and self-trust, a practical antidote during times of great uncertainty and instability.
“The body is a place of truth.”
Adyashanti
These mindfulness practices and self-inquiry skills lay the foundation for more stability, flow, and ease in your life. Inherent within our work together is the invitation to "wake up” to who you really are. Through the cultivation of greater self-awareness, emotional intelligence, and embodied presence you will be poised to bring your unique gifts into the world.
Over time, you will learn how to lift the veil of illusion, seeing clearly the genesis and distortion of your negative thoughts. As you do, you will know how to name and open to your simple human feelings, and heal the undigested wounds from your past. This dissent, coming down out of your head into your emotional and physical body, into presence, will allow you to live a more embodied, purposeful life. Self-development is an act of great generosity, benefiting you personally and the world around you.
